PHYSICS ROLLER COASTER PROJECT
With classmates Adam Orla-Bukowski and Avery Andrews I made a roller coaster for a marble for our Physics class. We spent weeks working especially hard on the aesthetics of it, as it was Lord of the Rings/the Hobbit themed, and required a lot of attention to detail. The track itself also required a lot of work, and constant adjustments to make sure the marble didn't fly off the track halfway through. The photo to the left shows just one part of the roller coaster, the end point, and despite what other people might say about their own roller coasters, ours was definitely the prettiest. Ever. We had a dragon and Rivendell and orcs, the whole deal. |
[ EXCERPT ] BEAT GENERATION IMITATION POEM
I wrote this for an assignment in my Junior year English class, in which we were supposed to take a pre-existing Beat poem and write an imitation of it, and I chose to rewrite Allen Ginsberg's poem "America". This is to this day one of my favorite creative pieces I've written, and I'm very proud of it. For this unit, we also had to read our poem out loud in front of the class, which was very intimidating but ultimately rewarding as I improved my public speaking skills. Full poem here. HP ENGLISH FINAL PROJECT (2014)
For my final project in Honors English last year, we were tasked with making a creative piece about Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49. For my project, I made a playlist using the website 8tracks.com, carefully selecting songs I thought relevant to the main character, Oedipa Maas. I used Photoshop to create a cover for this playlist (pictured to the left) and for each song, wrote a brief analysis to explain my choice of that song in particular. This is one of my favorite pieces of work I have done during my ACLC career because it moves beyond the traditional forms of essays and reports generally expected in high school, and is an alternative means of analysis. Also, it allowed me an opportunity to show of my fantastic music taste. Listen here. |
